Rubber Track Sizing Guide

How to Measure Your Rubber Tracks

Finding the right rubber track size is critical for optimal performance and equipment safety. Follow this guide to ensure you order the correct tracks for your skid steer or compact track loader.

Understanding Track Size Specifications

Rubber tracks are measured using three key dimensions:

  • Width: The measurement across the track tread (in inches or millimeters)
  • Pitch: The distance between track links (in millimeters)
  • Links: The total number of links in the track

Track sizes are typically written as: Width x Pitch x Links
Example: 450x86x56 means 450mm wide, 86mm pitch, 56 links

How to Measure Your Existing Tracks

Step 1: Measure Track Width

Measure the width of the rubber track from outside edge to outside edge. This is typically between 12-18 inches (300-450mm) for most skid steers.

Step 2: Measure Pitch

Measure the distance from the center of one track link to the center of the next link. Common pitches are 86mm, 90mm, and 101.6mm.

Step 3: Count the Links

Count the total number of links around the entire track. Common link counts range from 42 to 60 links.

Choosing the Right Tread Pattern

Once you know your track size, select a tread pattern based on your primary application:

  • Block Tread: Best for hard surfaces, pavement, and general construction
  • Multi-Bar Tread: Versatile all-purpose pattern for mixed terrain
  • C-Lug Tread: Excellent traction in mud, snow, and soft soil
  • Zig-Zag Tread: Superior grip for steep slopes and loose material
